KAT MARSHALL THERAPY SERVICES
What can I expect from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy?
Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), is a short-term therapy which concentrates on what is going on in the here and now. CBT is evidence-based and is shown to be an effective method of treatment for a range of mental health issues including depression, social anxiety and panic disorder. The approach focuses on a person's thoughts, emotions, and behaviours and explores how these interact to influence and maintain difficulties for the client. The goal of CBT is to help the client to explore their unhelpful thought and behavioural patterns and help them develop new, and more helpful, ways of thinking and behaving that promote the client's well-being even after therapy has ended.
We would work collaboratively towards your goals in a focused, empathetic and practical manner. In sessions we will agree on tasks for you to try between sessions, this could be trying a new behaviour, trying to reduce an existing one, or doing a worksheet to challenge a particular thought. This is done to enhance the in-session work and is an essential component of CBT. Sessions will usually be 1-hour but can be extended if appropriate, generally 8-14 sessions should be enough for most mental health issues to notice significant changes is overall wellbeing.
