ABOUT ME

My name is Kat Marshall and I am a fully qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I believe that all people can reach their full potential when they have the tools, knowledge and awareness to empower themselves. Together, we can find new ways of managing your current situation, challenging unhelpful thinking and experimenting with behaviour change. My role is to help you explore these difficult thoughts and feelings to find strategies for coping that work for you.

I established Kat Marshall Therapy Services because I am passionate about accessible and affordable therapy for those who need it most. I believe recovery is possible for all people and with the right support, every individual can thrive. I understand taking that first step in seeking help can be difficult, so I’m here to offer a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space where we can work together on the issues that matter to you.

My way of working

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, using evidence-based CBT approaches to meet your needs. My focus is on behaviour change and developing coping strategies to overcome life’s challenges. I work in a collaborative and empathetic way to build a strong therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist. Establishing trust and boundaries is a vital part of my work and we will work as a team towards your goals.

Everything starts with a thought - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) bases its theory on this key principle and together we will look at how this can impact how you behave and relate to others. We will work to build self-awareness of these patterns and challenge limiting beliefs.

I work with adults of all ages, backgrounds and identities. I champion equality and inclusion in my practice and I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community. I am experienced in and comfortable discussing social, legal and physical transitions for transgender people and am gender affirming. I understand that identity can develop and change over time and this is a safe space to explore this.

My Professional Background & Training

2020-2022

Postgraduate Diploma

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Groupwork
ACT Counselling Centre

I am a fully qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with over 100 hours of clinical practice. This COSCA-validated course gave me a foundational understanding of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and it's application in working with clients presenting with a wide range of mental health and wellbeing challenges. This qualification is validated by COSCA who are the professional body for Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland. I am working towards accreditation with professional bodies and have a clinical supervisor to oversee my practice.

2016-2020

BSc in Psychology and Counselling

Abertay University

I gained an understanding and practice of multiple modalities of counselling including person centred, psychodynamic and CBT. This British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited degree explored what occurs during child social and emotional development and why adults behave and interact in the way they do. This degree paired the theoretical understanding of psychology with the practical skills of counselling and mental health.

2013- 2014

HNC in Health and Social Care

North East Scotland Collage

This course developed my understanding of working within health and social care, exploring safe working practice and the purpose and benefit of therapeutic relationships.
